JenTV Announced at NAB 2013

TEEN BROADCASTER TAPPED BY uPUBLIC TV TO PROGRAM 24/7 CABLE CHANNEL

16-year-old Jennifer Smart Takes Over Cable TV Station in a Top 50 Market

LAKE ELSINORE, CA – April 8, 2013 – Jennifer Smart, a 10-year broadcast veteran at the age of 16, brings a fresh perspective to educational television starting in April. Through her 501(c)(3) organization, Jennifer will run a station on Comcast Cable in a Top 50 market. This is not the teen’s first position in station management, as she previously ran a 24/7 FCC licensed radio station in a Top 100 market.

This month, Jennifer will launch the Just Edutainment Network (JenTV). The Jennifer Smart Foundation brings a focus on education and entertainment to this family-friendly channel, allowing people to share their educational and inspiring messages with the community. The mission of JenTV is to provide educational, instructional and historical content from around the country and produced locally. JenTV will also feature “How TV Was Made” – a look at TV shows and animated shorts before 1972 – and recent age-appropriate music videos.

Jennifer says, “As our middle schools and high schools cut music and art programs, we’re looking to create content and provide value in those areas.”

Jennifer combines her experience in radio, TV, film and philanthropy for this endeavor. She strives to give television viewers a new option, and content producers another outlet, for family-friendly edutainment programming. The channel will also include programming produced by youth participating in the Jennifer Smart Foundation’s Find Your Voice program for sick, healthy and disadvantaged kids.

The foundation will run the station with no financial assistance except that provided by underwriters, sponsors and viewer donations. Jennifer is proud to mention the support of Sennheiser, who has supplied audio equipment. Tools On Air is providing their just:in ingest and just:play play out systems, that run an entire station on a Mac mini. AJA is providing Io XT for SDI capture and playout, KUMO 1616 for SDI signal distribution and Up/Down/Cross converter to support SD and HD networks. Christopher Paul of POV, Inc., a full-service video and new media production company, has donated equipment to provide for 24/7 streaming to the Internet, supporting computers and mobile devices.

Jennifer will be meeting with equipment vendors and underwriters at the 2013 NAB Show in Las Vegas this week.

About Jennifer Smart

Jennifer is no stranger to being the first, or the youngest, to accomplish something. She was the youngest nationally-syndicated radio talk show host at age 6 and started interviewing celebrities at 8. She’s the only child to broadcast live from the Consumer Electronics Show several years in a row, from E3 and from the All Candy Expo. She has interviewed more celebrities and industry insiders than anyone else her age, and reported on more than 300 red carpets at movie premieres and charity events. She toured the 48 continental United States sponsored by HP, broadcasting from a different location each week. She developed her own radio music format at age 9, started her own charity at 13 and became the youngest radio station owner in the US at age 14. Jennifer also hosts TV’s JENNi20 Countdown – the only countdown show created and hosted by a real teen.

About the Jennifer Smart Foundation

Founded in 2009 by Jennifer, the foundation was established to help kids and the things they care about. Its Find Your Voice program seeks to improve communication skills and self esteem in sick, healthy and disadvantaged kids, through both group and one-on-one mentoring. The program allows kids to put together their own programs, as they share their issues, passions and dreams. The foundation is working to build a new center for the program, which will contain both radio and TV elements.
